Join us on Monday, March 30th at 12:00pm CT for an informational webinar on what we're learning about COVID-19, government regulations, telehealth and more!
Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. Each day brings something new, and we wanted to update you on where we are today.
SAVE THE DATE - March 30 Town Hall
We are planning on hosting a Town Hall meeting via Zoom on March 30. This will be a chance for us to discuss with all of you what we have learned regarding changes to telemedicine, government laws, COVID-19, and anything else you want to talk about. More details will be sent out soon.
Currently all of our locations are open to seeing urgent and emergent patients. We will also be seeing any Light Adjustable Lens and Research patients. This plan is in place for the week of March 30 - April 3, and we will update each week.
IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY PATIENT, please give us a call. We would like to keep patients out of the Emergency Departments, so they do not risk being exposed to any infected persons, but also to allow our colleagues in the ED to focus on the COVID-19 outbreak.
Surgery & Lasers
We have paused all elective laser & surgery cases. We have reached out to all patients and have rescheduled for when we are able to resume our normal schedules.
A recent paper was published that demonstrated the risk of transmission of the corona virus through tears was low. It is available online here https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ophtha.2020.03.026.
We know these are unprecedented times and with that comes much anxiety over the unknown. We want to share what we have learned and what we are doing for our team, our patients, and for all of you. We plan to send out regular communications regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and we hope you find them useful. We have paused all of our regular communications so as to not overload anyone during this time. As you know, things are changing rapidly, and we are evaluating everything and taking it day by day.
We will be hosting interactive webinars to address these developments in the coming days and invite you to attend. Details coming soon.
Please know that you can call our office or our doctors directly on their cell phones if you have any questions.
Currently, all Vance Thompson Vision locations are open to seeing emergent and essential patients, which is any patient who could not wait to be seen for 30 days. We will also be seeing any Light Adjustable Lens patients who still need adjustments and lock-ins. Research patients will also be seen during this time on a case by case basis. This plan is in place for the week of March 23-27, although we expect it to extend beyond this time frame.
IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY PATIENT, please give us a call. We would like to keep patients out of the Emergency Departments, so they do not risk being exposed to any infected persons, and also to allow our colleagues in those critical departments to focus on the COVID-19 outbreak.
At this time, we have paused all elective laser cases. We have reached out to all patients and have rescheduled for when we are able to resume our normal schedules.
Currently, all Vance Thompson Vision locations are open for urgent and emergent surgeries only. All elective cases have been rescheduled for when we are able to resume our normal schedules.
We encourage all of you to follow the CDC guidelines and recommendations for social distancing. In our clinics, we have taken the following precautions.
· Prior to patients arriving, we call them to ensure they have no signs of cough, shortness of breath, fever, GI upset, or change to senses of taste or smell. We also ask if they have had ANY travel, been exposed to anyone who has travelled, or around anyone who has been sick. If the answer to any of these is yes, we recommend they contact their primary healthcare provider.
· Once patients arrive at the office, we ask the same questions as above, and also have one of our staff wearing a mask, gloves, and eye protection meet them at the door so they can take the patient temperature. If they have a temperature over 100.0 °F (taken by temporal/forehead scanner), we ask that they contact their primary care provider. This includes their driver.
· We have removed all magazines, snacks, coffee, etc. from the atrium area. We only have 2 pens and clipboards available for patients and we clean them after each use.
· All testing areas, exam rooms, and anything a patient may have touched are fully cleaned and wiped down with a virucidal disinfectant between patients.
· When seeing patients, all staff and doctors are wearing gloves, eye protection, and masks. This is above the CDC guidelines, but we feel it provides better protection than nothing. If a patient has a cough, we ask them to wear a mask as well.
